The common name is literal — the flower clusters look exactly like a bottle brush, bright red and bristling. Weeping form, evergreen, blooms in waves spring through fall. One of the best small trees for attracting hummingbirds in the South and West. Established plants handle drought and neglect with no complaints. Zone 8–11, and it looks like it escaped from a weirder continent.
