Fony Baobab
Adansonia rubrostipa
“The compact baobab. Warty reddish bark. Fits where others won't.”
The smallest of the Madagascar baobabs, the Fony has a characteristically warty, reddish-brown bark and a distinctly bottled or swollen trunk. Native to western Madagascar's limestone-rich dry forests. Its compact size makes it the most realistic baobab for residential planting in Zone 10+ — still unmistakably a baobab, just one that doesn't demand 100 feet of vertical clearance. Rare in cultivation outside botanical gardens.
