Lapins is the self-fertile option — one tree, no pollenizer needed. Needs around 400 chill hours, which puts it at the upper end for Zone 8 but within reach in cooler winters. Large, firm, dark-red cherries with excellent flavor. A cross between Van and Stella, bred in Canada for cold hardiness but adapted across a wide range. If you only have room for one cherry tree and your winters are cold enough, Lapins is the reliable single-tree solution.
