Minnie Royal Cherry
Prunus avium 'Minnie Royal'
“Half the chill hours. All the cherry. Plant with Royal Lee.”
Minnie Royal broke the rule that sweet cherries couldn't grow in warm climates. At 200–300 chill hours it produces genuine, full-flavored sweet cherries in late April. It's not self-fertile — plant a Royal Lee within 50 feet and both trees produce. The cross-pollination pair is one of the most reliable low-chill cherry combos available. Bloom is spectacular in late winter. If you've been told cherries are impossible, this is the tree that proves otherwise.
